Q: What is Triangle? A: The Organization of Triangles, Inc. is a fraternal youth organization started in 1926 by Rose E. Scherer. Young women between the ages of 10 - 21 may join. We have adult supervisors, but we are in charge of planning and conducting our own meetings and activities. We help the community through service projects and we participate in fun stuff too like bowling, dance, and trips through the state and country!
Q: Who can join? A: Triangle is open to girls between the ages of 10 and 21, regardless of race, creed, color, religion or national origin; who believe in a Supreme Being of their choosing – Triangle is open to all faiths and religions; and are related to or sponsored by a Master Mason or a member of Eastern Star or Amaranth
Q: How often do Triangles meet? A: Most Triangles meet twice a month. Sunrise Triangle meets on the first and third Fridays of the month, except for July and August. We also gather for servings, visitations, volunteering, sleepovers, weekend trips, and more. Each member decides how active she wants to be. You get out of Triangle what you put into it!
Q: What are Triangle meetings like? A: During a Triangle meeting, the officers discuss business such as charity work and visitations as well as conduct ceremonies such as Initiation of new members. It is during these meetings that our members practice their public speaking, learn how to conduct a business meeting and plan their events. No actions will ever be required of members that would be against their personal beliefs, religion, or home. In fact, members are encouraged to be loyal to their faith and home. Members are never asked to make pledges or participate in activities that would be contrary to their moral values or make them feel uncomfortable.
Q: Are Triangle functions supervised? A: Triangle could not exist without the group of adults that play such an important role within the organization. All meetings, events, and activities are chaperoned by the Supervisors of the Triangle.
Q: Are parents allowed to attend meetings? A: Like most organizations, Triangle does have some closed meetings that only members attend. However, parents and/or legal guardians are always invited to attend their child's initiation as well as closed meetings. Parents are asked to take a Parent Obligation if they are not a member of a Masonic Organization which requests them to not reveal our private ceremonies.
Q: What is expected of parents? A:Parents are always welcome at our activities, whether they are meetings or fun activities. We encourage all parents and adults to experience Triangle with their daughters, nieces, and granddaughters. The great thing about Triangle is that you can be involved as much as you like. Parents and legal guardians can be present at Triangle meetings and can become Supervisors. Every Triangle has a group of adults who serve as supervisors, helping the girls to learn ritual, plan their events and to be trusted confidants.
Q: Where do the ceremonies come from? A: The ceremonies such as Initiation and Installation can be found in the Triangle Ritual or book of ceremonies. A ritual is something that is done routinely such as getting ready for school. The Triangle Ritual contains the words to be spoken by the officers of the Triangle during our ceremonies. When a member holds an office in the Triangle, she learns her part from this book. This teaches Triangle girls about public speaking.
Q: Are there any secrets in Triangle? A: Triangle has no secrets from the world concerning its purposes. Our secrets are passwords and signs which allow Triangle girls to identify other members. Triangle does have some closed meetings that only members attend. However, parents and/or legal guardians are always invited to attend closed meetings and families are welcomed and encouraged to participate in our activities. No actions will ever be required of members that would be against their personal beliefs or the beliefs of their place of worship, or home. Further, members are never asked to make pledges or participate in activities that would be contrary to their moral values or make them feel uncomfortable.
Q: Does Triangle have a dress code? A: Yes, Triangle does have a dress code for their activities. During regular business meetings, the member must wear formal dresses. Members also receive merit bars for their hard work and dedication which they may wear on their gown or sash. Each member wears a sash during the meetings stating their office. The Past Beloved Queens can buy a special sash with their term embroidered on it. It is important to note, not all of our functions are formal. Some other events such as servings or visitations require members to wear skirt sets or dresses. And at our casual activities, girls may wear comfortable clothing that is appropriate for the specific event.
Q: Is Triangle a religious organization? A: No. Among the requirements for membership is the belief in a Supreme Being, but not one of a particular doctrine, sect or denomination. A young ladies' religious convictions are her own. Triangle recognizes the importance of faith in the lives of young women. The Duty we Owe to God reminds our members to use their own faith in life.
